IND vs AUS Hockey Test Series, Match 5 Highlights: Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian hockey finished their tour of Australia winless, going down 2-3 against the Kookaburras in the five-match Test series in Perth on Sunday.
India were outplayed 1-5 in the opening Test, but have shown improvement since. While they lost the second, third and fourth Tests 2-4, 1-2, 1-3, respectively, India held a lead in each of those matches.The fifth match could be filed under the close-yet-no-cigar category.
India yet again took the lead, thanks to Harmanpreet Singh in the first quarter. But India yet again couldn’t stop an Australian comeback as they scored three goals either side of the half time. Boby Singh Dhami, on his senior debut, did score in Q4 to spark hopes of a draw at least but India ran out of time.
It’s a fifth straight defeat and an upward trending performance graph shouldn’t take the focus away from the inability to win – or even manage a draw – against the Kookaburras, whom they will meet next on August 2 in Paris at the Olympic Games.
